Ever since I was younger, I’ve always been super picky with hair care products. My mom always strongly believed in using only higher-end salon brands – she never let me and my sister use the cheap L’Oreal kids shampoo no matter how hard we begged (you know, the colourful ones with the eye on the front that every single one of your friends used? Yep. Pretty devastating for young Katie). However, fast forward 15 years and I am forever grateful to her for showing me that high quality hair products MATTER. Spending a few extra bucks will seriously make all the difference.
To give you a lil background, my hair is pretty impossible to deal with. First off, there’s a TON of it. Like, it never ends. Styling can be an absolute nightmare. Second, it’s suuuuper curly. When I was younger I had it cut to my chin, and it was straight up ringlets. Third, it’s frizz city, no matter what I do. You should see what it looks like after a casual blowdry. I become an actual lion. Lastly, I dyed my hair blonde for years, which was very damaging. I’m back to my natural colour now, but the ends are sadly still a bit of a mess. To sum up: my hair is NAWT easy, no sir.
Having super thick hair means I need a pretty hardcore shampoo, one that can really lather up and make my mountain of hair feel clean. I find when a shampoo doesn’t lather well it’s tough to rinse out completely and typically leaves an oily residue. I’ve tried many, many, MANY shampoos over the years with varying results and finally settled on one I really like – Redken All Soft shampoo. It smells divine, lathers beautifully, and leaves my hair feeling silky and squeaky clean. That being said, I have been using it for years and sometimes a change is necessary. My older sister has a very similar hair type to me – her hair’s actually a bit thicker – and has mentioned in the past that she really enjoys a particular Lush shampoo bar, called “Honey I Washed My Hair” (haha good one Lush). I kind of brushed it off because having never used a shampoo bar, it’s hard to fathom using something that looks like a bar of soap to fully clean my mound of hair. I honestly forgot about the whole thing completely until this past Christmas, when my dear sissy brought her lil shampoo bar with her and convinced me to give it a try. And guys LET ME TELL Y’ALL – I am SOooOo hooked.
First impression: This. Thing. Smells. DIVINE. Like, holy crap. You all know I love me a good Lush product, but this one smells OUT OF THIS WORLD. The website describes it as a mixture between honey and toffee, which is fair enough, although I am not sure if that’s the first thing that comes to my mind when I smell it. The scent is soft and sweet, and fills up your whole bathroom every time you shower.

I wasn’t exactly sure how to use it at first? Like what the heck do I do with this weird shampoo that looks like a little circular soap?????? But it’s honestly pretty self-explanatory. All you need to do is wet your hair (duh) and then either rub it onto your head or your hands to create a lather. And voila! Work it through your hair, give er a rinse, and you’re golden.

Although the smell is what first attracted me, the product’s quality definitely lives up to its heavenly scent. It lathers SO easily, which is my number one criteria, and is easy to work through your hair. It also rinses out super quick, and never leaves any kind of residue. It makes my hair feel super clean, soft, and bouncy. Best of all, this thing lasts for EIGHTY WASHES, which is actually the same as three bottles of liquid shampoo, according to the Lush website. Bonus: it’s about half the price of a regular bottle of shampoo, with the quality of a salon brand. You can also keep it in a little tin in your shower, so it’s easy to store and travel with.

Over all guys, this product is frickinnnnn great. I did not expect to like it, but I’m IN LUV. 10/10 would recommend. If you give it a try, please let me know your thoughts, because personally, I am obsessed.
Till next time! xo
